Baldwin County has seen notable growth in a variety of industries recently. In addition to advances in aerospace, advanced manufacturing and technical industries, our health care industry is also continuing to grow and innovate. In October 2016, Thomas Hospital, an affiliate of Infirmary Health, broke ground on Baldwin County’s first freestanding emergency department in Daphne. Slated to open in 2017, the Thomas Hospital Freestanding Emergency Department will be the third facility of its kind in Alabama. Learn more about Thomas Hospital and the new ER below.
Located in Fairhope, Thomas Hospital has provided excellent patient care and compassionate service to Eastern Shore residents and the surrounding communities in Baldwin County for more than 50 years. Infirmary Health employs over 1,100 staff and more than 200 physicians in Baldwin County, and its 162-bed Thomas Hospital facility is ranked as a 4 Star hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
With an outstanding level of health care and high patient satisfaction rates, Thomas Hospital has become an award-winning facility, ranking nationally for outstanding patient experience, best patient experience, obstetrics, cardiac stat and orthopedics. Thomas Hospital currently has a $320 million annual impact on Baldwin County. With the addition of the new Thomas Hospital Freestanding Emergency Department, that number is expected to grow, in addition to providing new health care-related jobs and increasing the availability of health care services for Baldwin County residents.
Located at the corner of Highways 181 and 90 in Daphne, the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week emergency department will provide the same full-service care as a traditional ER, filling the gap for emergency care in the Spanish Fort and Daphne area. The 22,000-square-foot facility will feature 12 exam rooms, two trauma rooms, and an in-house laboratory and imaging department, complete with MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound equipment.
“We have received a considerable amount of community support regarding this project and are excited to take a leadership role in being the first in our area to offer this new service that will expand health care access in Baldwin County—the fastest growing county in the state,” said Thomas Hospital President Ormand Thompson. “We look forward to caring for the residents with these enhanced services.”
