Baldwin County is home to a wide range of manufacturing companies, consistently growing in diversity and striving to create more quality jobs in the area. Located in Bay Minette, Standard Furniture is one of the largest case goods manufacturers in the United States, employing over 500 Baldwin County residents—the second most out of all manufacturing operations in the county.
Founded in 1946, Standard Furniture is a widely known, international furniture manufacturing company that has grown to own over 1.4 million-square-feet of manufacturing space and 1.5 million-square-feet of warehouse space. With the company currently employing over a thousand workers, both domestically and overseas, about half of Standard’s hard-working employees call Baldwin County home.
Standard aims to hold true to its philosophy of supplying their retail partners with the best products to sell. They not only wish to grow the company, but also help their customers grow in their retail businesses. Constantly adding new product lines throughout the year as trends and tastes change, Standard Furniture adds on average 25 to 40 new products annually to keep up with the market trends.
Standard Furniture has over 1,700 retail partners and 7,000 storefronts and has collaborated nationally with major names in the furniture and home-décor business. In 2015, Standard Furniture partnered with Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” to host the Magnolia Home furniture line at their High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina. Standard's President Todd Evans and CEO Bill Hodgson attended the debut at a ribbon cutting with Chip and Joanna.
While many of their retail customers are national chains, the company does not forget its local, homegrown roots, often selling to regional dealers, distributors, and small locally owned furniture stores. What started as a small-town furniture manufacturing company has now boomed into one of the largest in the nation. Even with their booming success, Standard Furniture continues to give back to Baldwin County and provide job opportunities to our local community, boosting our economy.
